Is there an age requirement in MMA?

Chris Horodecki got me thinking, is there a minimum age you must be to compete as a pro MMA fighter, or does this vary by state and organization? Do you have to be 18 or 16? Anyone know?

I am like 95% sure that it is 18. I know several kids that waited until there 18 birthday to fight. If you are fighting locally, such as in a state where there really is not any sort of sanctioning or regulating body, it might be a little different. However, I am pretty sure that for liability and insurance reasons, they have to be 18.

16 if you get your guardians permission, I think there was a 16 year old who used to fight at KOTC. Can anyone confirm this?

State to state. Some you can fight at 16 as said above, most require you to be 18 for liability reasons. Though a lot of shows have "exhibitions" with younger kids (show I caught in Jonesboro, AR had a couple of kid fights, one rounders. They were I believe 11.)

I don't think there is a state that will liscense you as a pro fighter under the age of 18. Amature wise, I'm sure you could get in somewhere at 16.

Yeah, his name was Joe Stevenson. Maybe you've heard of him.
