Joe Vedepo?
What's the scoop on Sakara's opponent at UFN 15? Looked like a decent wrestler/GnP fighter on the youtube clip against Green, but anyone have any other info on him?

Trains out of Cedar Rapids, was offered to be on the last season of TUF but declined. Only seen two of his fights, I think he can take down Sakara and pound him out, Alessio seems to fold pretty quickly under fire and Joe is a relentless athlete.

Vedepo was a great high school wrestler in Iowa who got in trouble with the law and was kicked out of school. Came from a broken home, had learning disabilities and problems with alcohol. There was an Esquire article describing Dan Gable scouting Vedepo during the state tournament. I'll post the link if I find it.
The guy has all the physical tools. Hope his personal problems are behind him.

Do you know why he declined?

Shoot I forgot the Esquire article, if he wins Wednesday you might want to make a thread of it if you find the article.

Scroll down to the GQ spot.
I have the mag but no means to scan the article. If you can find it at a library it's worth reading.

I don't know first hand, but see the post above, he has had issues with alcohol in past, the house would not be good for him. Friend who went to HS with him said Joe was the only guy he would be scared to fuck with, the dude was crazy!

I heard the same thing, severe hair-trigger temper. Thing is, my friends in Iowa who follow HS wrestling said this kid was one of the best to come along in years, but just had too many personal problems. Glad to hear he's doing well in MMA, I had forgotten about him until I saw he was on Wednesday's UFN card.
I'm re-reading the GQ article as we speak. I went to the same HS as Gable (20 years later) but unfortunately I've never met him. The guy gets so intense just watching two wrestlers it's scary to watch.

Oh yeah, other thing I remembered from my friend about Joe.
What does Joe Vedepo have in common with Rodrigo Nogueira?
They have both been run over by a vehicle!

On both mmaweekly's rumors section and the UFC website it suggests the Spike broadcast may show as few as 4 out of the 10 fights depending on time. The ufc need to step up and start offering at least 2 more extra fights on the Ultimate Fight Night's. There is so much filler and advertising that the average mma fan cares nothing about. I know that it's all free, but too many good fights relegated to ufc on demand.
