he kept getting cut before he was getting paid. Also he played in the d league alot. Thats why the story is so compelling because he was a few days away from getting cut by the knicks bc they didnt want to pay him. then they were forced to play him bc of injuries.

He's making the NBA league minimum of $788,872 right now, feeling real sad for that pauper.

The post I quoted was comparing the exclusive natures of professional basketball with MMA; I pointed out a couple holes in that argument, no boldface necessary, and took the comparison to the NBA against the larger scope of MMA, not the UFC.

Even at the UFC level, the last 3 years have had one dimensional fighters such as Brock Lesnar, James Toney, Kimbo Slice, Jason Miller, Phil Davis, and surely lesser profile fighters on their undercards with minimal disciplinary talents. You can't seriously suggest the fighters listed above are "talented at many disciplines that involve both stand up and ground game."

Unified rules give you a one minute break in between 3 five minute rounds in a non title fight. 2 minutes of rest for 15 minutes of intermittent action. Compare that with Jeremy Lin's near 46 minutes of game time logged today against the 48 total game time minutes possible. Yes there's a half time break of twenty minutes, but even if you half the time into two events, that's two title fights of game time in a single time slot. And in season they play 4 nights a week, not one fight every 3 months. Certainly "a great heart" could be valuable in the NBA as well.

The double leg amputee line was a joke, and I mentioned he was in an amateur fight, not a professional, much less a UFC level, promotion.

Comparing the body types of the UFC divisions from 155-125 to that of the 'big league' NBA players is not without merit. At 5'3" and 125lbs, Mighty Mouse hardly had a shot at the NBA genetically, however, combat sports cater to a large scope of body types with the different dimensions, even if occasionally a fighter like Sanchez or Penn gets caught in between two divisions for their own ideal body compositions. Thus the exclusive nature of the NBA is greater than that of MMA, and even the elite level of fighters specifically fighting at some point in the UFC.
