How many calories do you burn doing BJJ?
Out of curiosity - does anyone have a rough idea how many calories they burn doing BJJ.
Our gym normally do a 30 - 45 minute sparring session and I find it really hard to judge how much I am actually burning. Sometimes I feel absolutely exhausted but I don't know if that is down to the lack of air in our gym and then some nights I feel like I have just had a light run. I suppose it all depends on your opponent and how hard they are working you.
I'm trying to cut some weight but have found I've lost about as much as I can just from BJJ. I think since the 1st day I've trained I've lost about 10 - 14 lbs but I don't see my weight going down any lower.
Probably have to start ditching the burgers and booze .
Thanks in advance.

I think it would depend on how hard you work.

Good question. Hope someone has a decent answer. I've thought about this also.

Like velvet glove said, it depends on how much you work.

Diets make up a huge part of weight loss. If you are just eating a shit load of crap and aren't burning all of it then it's useless. Just stick with salad and wheats and go to the D & S forum and you'll be fine.

Depends on the workout and also on the person. No two people will burn the same amount of calories.

just an estimate: Calories Burned by judo, jujitsu, karate, kick boxing, tae kwan do
700 calories per hour is what it says for jujitsu and judo for a person weighing 150#... of course there is no way to know exactly what you are burning. I know for a fact I don't burn 700 calories per hour doing bjj.

I go for 4 hours at a time, so I guess around 500-1000.
