Ever heard of leg locks? CW guys are obsessed with them, it is quite different to BJJ. Watch Rumina and Imanari fight before you criticize. They are 100x more exciting then most BJJ matches.

It's also important to remember, for combat wrestling, that there are no rules forcing the top guy to engage a guard player, and that it is no-gi. Backing out and letting the other guy standup is more common than trying to pass if he starts to look threatening off of his back. On top of that, the bottom guy is normally looking to stand up as much or more as sweep/submit/back-take, with some exceptions like Imanari.
And yeah, Rumina Sato is a better example of combat wrestling.

If that is true, then this is getting hilarious.
Why the heck are people calling him the CATCH Koala or CATCH god, if he is not even a catch wrestler?

I've watched many matches involving rumina sato and imanari. (Both mma and grappling).
They are skilled absolutely. Imanari even has a bjj brown or black belt if I am not mistaken.
However, the guys that they are grappling against in these combat wrestling tournaments seem to just SUCK off their backs. They are in losing positions (side mount/turtle/back mount) for NO good reason, other than their guards getting passed like nothing.
And again, I think rumina sato and imanari are decent grapplers, but anybody can look amazing grappling against people who lack guard work on the ground.

If there are no points for passing the guard, then the guard isn't going to be worked on to prevent the pass. Competition rules dictate the evolution of styles.

He trained/trains under Minoru Suzuki. He's a catch guy. He cross trains though too.

The rules dictate a majority of the style of grappling. Most of the top Combat Wrestlers are nothing less than stellar. However, if you put them against a bunch of "jiu jitsu" players their not going to be seen as successful because they simply have to go through 5x as many guys as themselves with that style.

CACC/Submission Grappling student of Frank Shamrock used his grappling to subdue one of two gang members who had just robbed a bank and was attempting to carjack another car in the get away.
Frank's student took him down and applied an armlock till the guy gave in and said he would stop resisting.
